Default Neutral Quilt Ideas Needed

My oldest daughter is requesting a neutral quilt with whites, creams and grays. She has commented that she does not like quilt patterns. Seems like she prefers pastel neutrals in an understated way. I have postponed this many times as I don't know where to start. Any suggestions???

How about a simple chevron quilt in those colours?

Would she like big squares? I think they turn out very pretty.

You might want to visit the website of Keepsake Quilting. I got their catalog today, and it had a number of pale fabric collections. For instance, you might look at Sandy Dune or Sandy Shores or the various Shirting collections. The Ice and Ivory, and White and Ivory, collections might appeal to her, too. Downstairs at Downton is quite pale, as are a number of other collections like Bali Sandstone and Bali Pastels and Sand Dollar Medley and Background Beauties Batiks and Sunshine Grays. Oh, so many to choose from!

Another way to go would be to make her a "whole cloth quilt." There's no piecing at all - just quilting.

Check out the patterns by Sew Kind of Wonderful. She sounds like she likes modern over traditional.

She's probably telling you she doesn't want a traditional quilt pattern, but a modern one; many, many of the younger generation prefer the 'new' look -- I remember the Pucci prints from when I was late teens/early twenties.

If you google "modern quilts in gray and white" or "neutral color modern quilts" or even just "modern quilts" you'll get a whole lot of easy but dramatic ideas.

Good luck, Mom; this way of quilting can be hard on some of us long time quilters!

Look at the book Modern Neutrals by Amy Ellis, especially the pattern on the cover of the book called Whispered Lace. I have made 3 of these in light grays, taupes and creams with white sashing and they are beautiful.
I am not at home so can't post a photo of one right now but will try to remember to when I get back.

Maybe you could tell your daughter to google image "neutral quilt" and pick something she likes.

Well I found these photos on my iPad of the Whispered Lace quilt, it is a modern design, but might spark other ideas for you.

I recall that Jeanne has posted some very nice neutrals. Click on her name and check her started posts. I will see if I can find them.
