It is a good deal if you use a lot of 12wt. thread.

This is a bargain. Superior is discontinuing the 100 yd spools and going to a larger spool. The price will be a lot more then the $3.99 regular price for the 100 yard spools. I use it for decorative stitching, thread art, cross stitch, embroidery, and it's wonderful for blanket stitch.

I just ordered this set myself. I don't do anything fancy...3 or 4 quilts a year but I am always buying thread to make a particular quilt. I haven't educated myself enough about thread, I guess, as I happily ordered this for everyday sewing use; piecing, applique and quilting which generally consists of cross-hatch, diagonals and SITD. Then I saw Tartan's reply and went into a panic! I honestly don't know what weight thread I'm using so when she said "if you use a lot of 12W" I thought, well now I have 70 spools of thread I can't use! So Please help me out a little here....can I use this great bargain 12w for my work???

llong I believe it will work for what you want to do - I plan on using it for the same things, and I like to embroider in the evenings too. I may do some hand-quilting with it, & I read it can be used on a machine with a large eye needle.
PLUS I went back to the link today and the 70-spool set is now priced at $279.

onebyone, I want to thank you for this alert. I ordered the 50-spool set with case (I don't have a system to store 70 spools so I went for the 50 b/c of case) which is now listed at 221.50 !!! instead of the 69.50 I paid....

I received the 70 spool set and couldn't be happier. The colors are beautiful. 12wt thread is the equivalent to two strands of floss. Perfect for machine applique, thread painting, and my new favorite: Big Stitch handquilting.
