Default Mini Design Board Tutorial

This is a great tutorial by Lori Holt, showing you how to make cute mini design boards. I'm going to make a couple to use when laying out my blocks next to my machine.

cute. Years ago I collected the back boards from legal pads, when I had 30 I gave them a shot of 3M spray glue and laid a pre-cut piece of white flannel over one side. Easy to store and so nice to lay out blocks, stacked beside the machine. When I have a minute or two just sit down and go - not having to 'find my place'. They are in good shape after lots of use being slung around at retreats and workshops - and the glue has not 'crackled' or discolored the flannel.

I purchased several of her boards knowing that she also gave instructions for making them. I really like them and they are easy to transport quilt pieces from table to sewing machine.

I use my 2 sided ironing/cutting board "Quilt 'n' Press' from June Tailor. What I believe to be a good idea with these design boards though is when laying out the pattern rows to you would have them right there in sewing order and Just bring the boards over.

I made one of these and I love it. I take mine to retreats. Easy to transport.

I made a few of these and use them a lot. Not always, but a lot. They are nice for when you need to set a block up before sewing it.
