Garden Gnome

Has anyone done any sewing with that flip-up sequin fabric that is so hot right now? It is available for about $18 to $20 per yard on Amazon. I wonder how hard it would be to sew with. My grand daughters are fascinated with it. I thought maybe making pillows or a bag for them wouldn't be too many seams.

I used to make my sons ice skating outfits, sequin fabric is workable, needs patience and go slow over the sequins or you break needles, xx

​Well I sewed right through a flower head pin without any trouble on my Bernina. I think sewing slowly right through the sequins will work.

I used to sew for a lady who made dance costumes for kids. We sew lots of sequins, feather boas, anything shiny or fluffy. We always used size 16 needles on all of those, broke a needle once in a while but not often.

I used to make formal gowns for my wife, and she really liked the look of sequins. Almost every pattern I used had me take the sequins off the seam line of the garment, sew the seams together, then replace the sequins for a more finished look. It was tedious, but well worth the effort, I think. I don't know that I would take the time now. There are far too many quilt patterns that are wanting to be made!

I sew for a church group and someone donated some bright red sequined material. Not worth a hoot for quilting but I'm sewing some of the MollyMine crazy quilt embroidery hearts and it looks spectacular! We sell the ornaments as fundraisers to buy batting/backing fabric for the Quilt Ministry. It's stretchy material and I have to use temporary adhesive spray to make sure it behaves as it should, haven't experienced any problems with needle breakage using a Babylock Ellisimo.

I think I would try using a denim needle and slow my machine way down, and just experiment a little to see what works for me.

I saw some bags made commercially today at Office Depot out of that fabric. It is very interesting stuff and looks very user friendly.
