    Default Is 81× 88 big enough for a King?

    I'm trying to figure out if this quilt will be big enough for a king sized bed, or if I should figure out a way to enlarge it.

    A standard king mattress is 76x80", so you would have 2.5" overhang on each side, and 8" overhang at the foot (assuming no pillow tuck). I would definitely try to enlarge it, unless it's going to be used over top of a more generously sized quilt or bedspread.

    It will fit a king size bed (with no drape included). My king size mattress is 79x 81. A California King mattress is roughly 72 x 84 inches.
    With a drape, it will be more like 110" x 108" give or take.

    Google says a king size mattress is about 76 x 80

    Missouri Star Quilt Co put out a chart with quilt sizes here:

    Edit: oops...looks like we posted at the same time, Jennifer.

    I would make it bigger, unless you want it to just lie on top of the bed. I like at least 12" overhang on sides.

    I make a lot of kings. I like them about 114"minimum to 120" square.

    120 x120 makes a generous king.

    I just finished a King for our bed and it measured 100 x 115. I was very happy with it. I like overhang on the sides.

    Big enough if you want it as a quilt as it covers the top of the bed.
    Not big enough, for the humps of people under that quilt ... without fighting!

    Not big enough for a "bedspread" quilt ... as already mentioned by others.

    What fits for others king beds, may or may not work for you.

    A lot of variation on sizes according to .....
    * mattress depth
    * height of bed from floor
    * do you want pillow tuck allowance?
    * drape desired on sides
    * is there a footboard to tuck into? or drape required there

    There's probably some other factors, but this is a start.
