Default love this mid-century Modern flower

had a friend's quilt that was totally rectangles in alternating directions (the blocks) and many solid gray rectangular blocks. And some blocks had sashing--but not on all sides. I was really stymied about how to quilt---until I noticed that the plaid was like a shirt my Dad had, the paisley looked like a dress of my Grammy's, the navy with roses was similar to a pair of shorts Mom had, the aqua with cream & mustard roses I swear my Grammy had curtins similar, and the mustard with the random tic-tac-toe icons my Grandaddy had either a shirt or PJ's! All in the late 50's-early 60's--soo... these square flowers look like a table cloth of my Mom's from that time period that I have and the "orbits" in the 9+ patches are a nod to the Space Age! Sashing just had to be something that I could "travel" with but not look too weird that it was assymetrical.

I love that flower, but all your quilting is fabulous. What a beautiful combo of fabrics with the gray.

Love what you did with the quilting and your explanation of the inspirations. Plus I REALLY love asymmetry. You nailed this one for me!

Thanks for the story thought process for the quilting. You made it all come together nicely. Thanks for posting.
