Default mini dresden plates help

Hello everyone,

I need help! I am trying to make small - mini - dresdens and I keep ending up with these massive dresdens. I have the template to cut them, but I am obviously doing something wrong!

I found a pic on pinterest and the minis had 12 plates - that's what I am trying to make ... any mathematicians out there? I thought I could figure it out, but apparently not!

Thanks so much

Don’t forget that your seams will make your plate smaller. The wider your blade the bigger your plate will be.

This is a tutorial for making a Dresden plate with 12 blades, Marion. Hope it helps.

Edited to add add this tute that explains the math

To make your dresdens smaller you need to start at the narrowest end of the template and make them from that end. I hope that make sense.

Thanks, but those are still too big LOL ... i'm looking for minis that are about 6 inches from top to bottom of the whole thing (so maybe 2.5 inch blades?) and a small circle in the middle ...

Yes, you make the finished dresden smaller by shortening from the red line in the drawing. I would think 2.5 ish would get the finished size you want.

Love the graphic - really shows what is meant by "from the bottom/narrow end of the template"

SheriR did a QB tutorial on mini dresdens using quilters candy squares. I used them for mug rugs for my sisters. The plates were about 6 inches finished but they only had 10 petals.

It looks like you want a wider angled ruler to get fewer blades.

within the tutorial linked by Janie above is a pdf of a template for a 12 bladed dresden. and as diagrammed by Kassaundra above, cut your blades from the narrower end.
