Default help with making a star block

I have some large print fabric and want to fussy cut it for the center of a star. I think the center will be around 6 or eight inches, how do I figure out what size the legs of the star should be. I am going to use HST but can figure out how big they should be.. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated..Thanks

Can you post a sketch of the block you have in mind?

It does not have to be fancy -

I would make your hST 1/2 your finished center plus the 1/2 inch seam allowance. So if your finished center is 6 inches, then your HST should be 3 1/2 unfinished
