I recently bought a stencil cutter myself. Heats like a soldering iron. Show Offs is the brand. Purchased at Michael's. Price on the product shows $14.99. It comes with different sized tips. I looked at several different brands/styles available at both JAF and Michael's. Liked this one the best because of the different sized tips; was cheaper than those available at JAF (even with a 50% off coupon) and was available in store that day vs having to order online from JAF because none were available in store for purchase.
It definitely takes some practice to get a smooth line but even at only my second attempt it was a usable stencil. If this is something you decide to do I would recommend using a piece of scrap wood under your stencil plastic as the tip will mar any other surface you work on.
