Tomorrow, April 24, LQS is hosting their 2nd 1,000,000 Pillowcase Sew In. Shop owners goal for 2010 is 1,000 cases and we're half way there as 505 have already been made and donated to ConKerr Cancer in the name of my Guild's Project Pillowcases. Her customers have been great with many making pillowcases as home and dropping them off at the shop. May in Jersey

I went last week and bought a whole bolt of muslin (90" x 15yrds). Our girl scout troop (6 year olds) are going to be sewing and then tie dying pillowcases. There isn't a quilt store around here that is taking pillocase donations so we are going to donate directly to the Ronald McDonald house in St. Louis. The girls are really excited and so are the moms. There is only one other mother out of eight that has tie dyed other than myself! And I am the only one that sews regularly. Many of them say they can't even sew a button, we'll see about that! This should be fun! lol

I haven't updated the count lately on the pillow cases so as of today, April 23rd the count is 64,924! My LQS is a sponsor for them too so it's fun to see the different ones.

We were a little disappointed that only 1 LQS customer showed up to sew at yesterday's 1,000,000 Pillowcase Sew In but several dropped by to give us pillowcases they had made at home. We did get a bit more participation from our guild memebers, LQS is quite a distance for most, and total for the day was about 110 cases. Grand total this year is about 525 towards the LQS's goal of 1,000 for this year. We're getting there, next Sew In at the shop is scheduled for June. The shop's customer will continue to drop off pillowcases and boxes of zip lock baggies to pack the washed pillowcases in. May in Jersey

I didn't get into the Pillowcase challenge because I made 32 pillowcases for the great grandkids for Christmas and I got all the pillowcase making I wanted for a while.

I can't figure out where to register my completed pillowcases. I donated 2 to foster care children from Sr Vincent DePaul's Angel Tree at my church. I have 12 more in various stages of completion. They are fast and easy, and I do know children will love them! What a great cause---I love quilting for children who otherwise have nothing. Bless them!

If you're low on funds (and who isn't at this time of year!) you might look into purchasing sheets at your local thrift store. Cut them to the correct size to sew. You could also put a decorative border at the opening to spruce them up a bit.

Our thrift shop always seems to have plenty available and it wouldn't be hard to add some fun fabric in the border.
