Machine quilting not that great.
I have a machine that you can take a few stitches and it ties the threads, I guess, either that or just makes a bunch of threads. Can I use that to ties off my stitches on a quilt? Probably not?

My machine free motion quilting isn't that great either, but I do fine with the walking foot. I've never tied a quilt by machine and actually don't like the look of tied quilts. I recommend Leah Day's Walking Foot Quilting book. It gave me great confidence and I got some ideas for making my machine quilting much better.

if you are doing FMQ, the only thing you have to do to fasten the threads is stitch several times in one spot. I used to leave long ends and then bury the threads but this work just as well and leaves only a tiny knot.

Thank you for the responses. One time I did leave threads and buried them later, it was tedious to say the least. Lately I go back forth a few times over the stitch, it does not make a knot, just kind of a thick spot, seems to work okay, probably never win a prize tho.
