Default Houston airport transportation

I will be attending the Houston quilt show in three weeks. I just found out that Super Shuttle will no longer be providing services in Houston as of 10/11/19. I am from a very small town and have never used public transportation in a big city. Is the Metro easy to navigate in Houston? Or are the taxi's reliable? I will be staying downtown near the convention center so I just need transportation from the airport IAH.

Thanks for your advice.

Call the hotel you will be staying while you are there and they can tell you who to use. Many hotels have their own shuttles. They can also tell you how far they are from the airport.

I did check with the hotel, they do not have a shuttle. The distance from the airport is 22 miles. That seems like a long way to go on a bus, I imagine there would be a lot of stops. I guess I can take a cab but they are expensive. I hate to spend so much on a cab when there are so many buying opportunities at the show

How about Uber or Lyft?

My daughters use Lyft all the time - I would do the same. I am surprised the hotel couldn't make a recommendation on who to call.

Uber, Lyft or another taxi service. I have used Uber many times and have always been very pleased and never had any issue.

https://www.airport-houston.com/taxi.php here is a link that might be helpful to you, scroll down to the bottom of the big ad. If you have a smart phone you can download the Uber app and check pricing from them also. In some cases I've found Uber more expensive than a taxi. Also go to the quilt shows information page, sometimes they list transportation options. You can post here and ask if anyone else is going and maybe ride share with them.

I use Lyft a great deal. I have had no problem with them. I always have an idea how far out they are when I am waiting. I live out in an area where there is no public transportation too. Just know that most major air ports have a specific pick up place for Uber and Lyft. Taxi cabs get the door area. If you use Uber or Lyft be sure to check this out first.

Bus service can be sketchy. You'd have to check the routes and times. A lot of their buses are mainly commuter service and only run at certain times, not all day. I have never used Uber or Lyft. My only reservation with these services is that in case of an accident, you may not get much coverage. Most people carrying the minimum requirements which won't cover much in the case of an accident.

Good luck and have a great time. I'll be at Festival Fri, Sat and Sun. If you want to meet up, shoot me a pm.

Maybe another hotel close to yours has a shuttle service. Maybe look your hotel up on a map and look for others that might have a shuttle service that you could hitch a ride on.
