Happy New Year's Everyone!
I "gifted" myself the time to sew for New Year's Eve and Day. I was a very happy camper as for various reasons I have not been able to sew lately. It felt oh so good and was totally helping to raise my spirits!
But ... as Murphy's Law would dictate, machine problems!
It was stitching along fine, then switched to very slow stitching for ten stitches and stop.
Error message is the red spool of thread, which indicates problems in the upper thread.
Clear the message and another ten slow stitches. Stop. Error Message.
Clear. Repeat .......... arrgggghhhh!
So far, I've tried everything I can think .... but no luck ... including
* changed thread, both spool and bobbin
* cleaned as much as I can top and bottom
* switched needle
* tried different fabrics
* turned machine off and let it sit for awhile
* probably other stuff too ...
Anyone with further suggestions?
I'm thinking it is probably something so simple and small, but .... what?

Have you removed the door that sits in front of /covers the thread take up lever? There's a slot on the left side where you insert a tool to remove the door. I've had thread ball up in there, and unless it's removed, the problem returns.

Thanks Donna and Barb ... I'm starting to think there is some lint or a thread somewhere internally that I cannot get at. *sigh*

I'm having the same exact problem with my 820, only mine started about a month ago.
In my case the error goes on, I press the button, it sews about 8-10 stitches (is not exactly consistent) stops, I hit the error again, go 8 stitches, etc.
It is one of those things where it worked just fine the night before and nothing changed, I'm thinking it's maybe a computer upgrade issue. I've done all the things there are to do, changing needles, threads, bobbins, plates, feet, etc.
So right now I have my cheapo Brother up and using it for the Bonnie Hunter mystery. I'm missing my knee peddle and my bobbin sensor and workspace and all that -- but working beats an inch at a time.
Edit: The stitch quality is just fine, you can't really tell except where I drew lines at each stop. But good both top and bottom. To me it just smacks of some sort of rotation/count problem, and I went through and made sure I didn't somehow put in a special stitch.

IceBlossom ... well, I guess the good news is that we both have the same problem!
Still it's bad news, when you want to sew ... and that was my total plan for today. So totally disappointing!
I know I have had it happen before, and it usually meant some fluff or duff tucked in somewhere.
Despite the error message, it usually has been in the bobbin case.
But that is no surprise as the error messages, often are not relative to the real problem.
Even the techie has told me that ......... *sigh*
Right now I am thinking it will be a shop visit.
Good or bad ... it's past due for its tune-up appt, so will do that at the same time, if I don't get it figured out.

I have a Bernini 560 and kept getting a bobbin error message. I would thoroughly clean the whole bobbin area looking for that little thread or lint, nothing. Eventually I looked inside the bobbin and saw the problem. Lint had built up on the bottom. A few seconds of cleaning and all was good again.

QuiltE, did you give your machine "the" talk? Starting with "Now hear this...".
My machine was sewing backwards every time I made a turn.
Gave it "the" talk just before taking it in. I was ready to trade it in.
Would you know it started sewing properly? :-)
Truth is that I was pressing the wrong button each time. LOL
Hope you can get this fixed. Nothing more annoying when you
want to sew.
