Question Minkie strip quilt

I have a Minkie strip quilt kit that I'd like to make. I've had it about 3 years and it's time to get it done! I'm using Warm & Natural for the batting - obviously too thick and heavy because my machine (2 of them) won't allow me to increase the stitch length. I'm using the walking foot but my stitches are very, very short and won't get longer.
I've made Minkie quilts before but it was a long time ago and I don't remember what I used for batting.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.

A lot of people don't use batting at all with Minkee or Fleece, but I do like a little bit of something even a piece of flannel gives something for the stitches to bite into and can prevent color bleed from the back to top.

Typically I use poly batts anyway with less quilting than is currently popular. Warm and natural is denser and heavier than I prefer for most of my projects (although it is indeed the perfect choice for others), so I just get a really thin batt in a bag instead of my typical fluffy batts.

I'm sorry that I don't have any good suggestions for you as I have only used minky a few times....cotton top...warm and natural batt....and minky backing...my machine had no problems stitching through these with the walking foot.
I am interested in what your Minky Strip quilt pattern looks like....would it be suitable for all those trimmings we hold onto once we cut down the backing?
