Default Right or wrong side of fabric?

I use a lot of tone on tone fabric (white on white, beige on beige) for backgrounds. HOWEVER sometimes it can be so hard to determine which is which until I sew it into the block. So to avoid this issue, when I cut the first long strip, I flip it over and use my washable marker to make a line on the WRONG side. Now I know which side is the RIGHT side. Saves time and my "redesign tool" (seam ripper) can have a rest. I always wash my quilts before gifting so the mark IF it shows, washes out.

Perfect solution. Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try next time I use white on white fabric. Happy New Year!

Great tip!

I used the lighted magnifying glass to check a white tone on tone on a recent project. It was so hard to tell the right side and not flip the pieces.

White on white can be tricky for aging eyes, great idea!

If I'm using a tone on tone fabric, wear blue jeans and just put the fabric on my leg. Works every time.

I mark the right side of my fabric. An easy way to tell the right side is to feel. Right side is the smoothest side. I was taught this in HomeEc. many years ago.

Great idea! Reminds me of what a shop owner said to me once when I was saying the wrong side of some wideback would be perfect for a quilt I was making--she said "use whatever side works cause you pay for both sides"!

If you are able to, doing your sewing on white-on-white in natural light.
