Default Is this considered quilting?

Is it still considered quilting if the middle layer of a quilt is interfacing instead of batting?

I just finished my 'quilted' yoga mat bag and it occurred to me that maybe I shouldn't use the term quilted.

The dictionary term is: A quilt is a multi-layered textile, traditionally composed of three layers of fiber.

My yoga mat bag is made of cotton fabric on both the inside and outside, with a fiber interfacing between the two, and everything is sewn together.

But does fiber interfacing count...?

It does in my book!

I remember hearing about "summer" quilts which were just pieced tops and a backing with no batting in between layers. (This may be a Southern US thing if I remember).

I think so. Batting takes all forms, whether it's interfacing or thick puffy polyester. But then, that's just my opinion.

I would certainly consider it a quilt.

Thanks everyone. I will continue to call it a quilted yoga mat bag.

I've never heard of a 'summer' quilt before - reminiscent of a duvet cover without the duvet.

Of course it's a quilt! Don't let anyone tell you different.

I'm going to "batt" the quilt I'm making now with flannel or a sheet.

We used to call the them "coverlets" instead of quilts. They are wonderful in the summer.
