I feel really dumb but how can you tell if your machine has a low or high shank????

One of the best illustrations I have seen is the one at https://www.anniescatalog.com/pages/which_foot.html. However, Kenmore has some machines with super high shanks that are not illustrated. There are some other places that have a low shank at 1/2" rather than 3/4" as seen at High Shank? Low Shank? and https://www.statewidesewing.co/catal...in_page=page_2

Look on a website that sells machine feet. You can see the difference there. That’s what I do

You could just plug "Is (brand & model) high shank" into google
and you should get the answer.

Thanks for the replies. I will check them out - I have a Janome 6600 but that shouldn't make a difference in telling what is and what isn't a low or high shank.

By going on line, I solved my question whether my Janome 6600P is a high or low shank. It is a high shank. Maybe that is why I can FMQ on my domestic 6600P so well. A high shank allows for more material thickness under the pressure foot.
