Thanks, everyone. I guess I'll buy a few rolls of different tape and try them all. I have tried and don't like to use pins to hold the tape down. I find it distorts the line and I want it as straight as I can get it.

Have you tried the ultra washable fine markers from Crayola? I have had great results with them. Never dissapoints.

I have a roll of Scotch 3M blue painter's tape that I use on my quilts, and I can move it multiple times and it still sticks to the fabric.

That's what I've been using, but I find it pops up mid-way through a long run. Then I have to try to pin it down, defeating the whole purpose. It also seems like different colors react differently to the "stickability" of the tape.

Will try those Crayola markers, though!

I bought a bunch of markers and white marking pens along with a roll of Frog tape. That Frog tape works exactly how I want it to work - sticks on different colors and types of fabrics (batik, "calico," etc.). I love it. Thanks to whoever suggested it! I'm throwing away my Scotch blue.

For 20 plus years I have used the regular masking tape with no problems.

    Default painter's tape for quilting

Go to a painting selling store first off. If you can afford it ( I don't know your budget) but they the best brand they sell for professional painters. Manufactures make the tape in different grades. I have used this tape on my quilts, and at a guild free motion class. What's also nice is you can find it in different widths, so you can have various patterns. Hope this helps.
