Default Sunshine pillows

Hello Quilters! Here are a couple of 18 inch pillows I made for my grandson who is graduating high school. He will be getting money too but I’ll tell you why I made these.
When Mason was about 6 months old his mom, our daughter got cancer. We kept him while his mom had surgery and during her treatments. He missed his mom like any baby would and would cry when it was nap time or bedtime so I started singing the song You Are My Sunshine.

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
Anyway, he seemed to like it because he would settle down and go to sleep. ( or just maybe he went to sleep so he wouldn’t have to listen to me singing-lol) No I think it calmed him along with the rocking.
So it’s hard to believe this boy is 18 in January and finishing high school already. BTW mom is doing good.
The doctor wanted me to have therapy for my arm so I thought sewing and quilting would be good therapy even if that’s not the kind he meant. It took me longer to quilt because my arm would get tired and hurt to reach to thread my machine or wind a bobbin, but I finally finished. I quilted both sides because they can be reversible. The zipper is in the bottom edge. No pattern for the patchwork, just whatever piece would fit them both, so they would be alike.
I am pleased with the turn out. Mason may not remember but his mom will. Mason learned to walk while we had him. I didn’t tell his mom, even though we spoke on the phone when she felt like it. When she was well enough to come get him and got out of the car, it looked like a scene from Steel Magnolias. I put him down and he started walking to her. She wasn’t the only one crying when he did. His mom should have been the one to see his first steps. ❤️❤️❤️

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the back story behind your pillows. You are my sunshine is my favorite song that I sing to my Granddaughter at naptime! Please share the pattern for the pillows if you have one. I also would like to order the embroidery designs you used. I see many future projects using this design. I like the black and white fabrics you have chosen.

Happy Graduation to your grandson and the proud Grandmother!
