    Default The Biggest Quilt

This quilt was made for a couple's 27th wedding anniversary and a surprise from the husband to the wife. The finished quilt is 85 X 105 and weighs just short of a ton. The husband and I searched some of my books and he chose Spinning Pinwheels from "Stash-Buster Quilts" by Lynne Edwards. Since it was my my first commissioned quilt and through planning, I discovered the purchaser really wanted a bedspread. I aim to please and learned a lot of skills along the way, mostly math and how to adjust a pattern to meet the size requirements of someone who doesn't understand the intricacies of quilt making and how to keep the integrity of the pattern he picked out.

In the end, it was wonderful to see the happy face of the recipient and to see the photos they took of the quilt on their bed. I have known them casually for many years and it was an honor to be part of his special anniversary surprise.

I see the photo is sideways. If you click on it, it does shift to the correct position.

Very nice! Beautifully done! What a wonderful gift from husband to wife! Congrats on your first commissioned project!

I totally understand about 'bedspread' size. I make all of my quilts bedspread size, from twin to king. The only ones I make 'quilt' pattern size are throws, baby, runners, wall hangings, and potholders.

That is one of the most admirable quilts I've seen here. I love the simplicity and the colors used. The red is just the "pop" it needs! Well done!!

What a thoughtful and generous gift, even if you were getting paid LOL Most people have no idea the time, talent and money needed to complete a quilt. You did a fabulous job and I like how you extended the length with the addition of a few matching borders. It will be a special treasured memory.
