Default Golden Acres Farm

I made this 16" x 16" block to enter into the State Fair Barn Quilt contest. I tried using gold satin for the background just to see if I could. I put some light interfacing on the back of the satin to stabilize it. The problem I found using the satin is that since the pieces aren't all sewn in the same direction, the shiney satin looks like different colors in the block, and they weren't evenly spaced. I almost threw it away in disappointment.

After I quilted it, one can hardly tell that was a problem. I'm glad I didn't throw it away. I think I like the back better than the front.

I named it Golden Acres Farm to give the judges a reason to think the gold satin was appropriate. Do you think that will convince them?

The quilting on this block is amazing! I love how your different angles on the satin are causing your design to sparkle. Golden Acres Farm indeed! Beautiful!!

Satin does tend to be directional and reflect light differently when its turned. Your block is gorgeous. Your quilting is amazing (but then I knew that from seeing your quilt at Quilt Festival last year). I'm sure you'll be bringing home a ribbon with this block.

Thank you for sharing all three views. They illustrate your concerns about the satin perfectly. A blue ribbon quilt indeed!
