Quilted shawl??? Does it exist?
A friend of mine goes to dialysis three times a week. She mentioned that she is always cold while there. I'd like to make her a quilted shawl that would be easy to transport to dialysis, but isn't too bulky or cumbersome. Has anyone made a quilted shawl? If so, would you share the pattern, or tell me where to find one? I have searched, but not come up with anything. Maybe it is my wording. Help! Thanks everyone!

How kind of you! Sounds like the long side of half a lap quilt if you want a rectangular pashmina-type shawl. If you make it out of flannel you can eliminate using batting for a less bulky, shawl-like weight. I have never seen a quilted shawl but it sounds great! A quick google search turned up one on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1138093...BoCNnMQAvD_BwE

I do not have a pattern, but I just started putting together 2 1/2 inch strips, pretty much came up with a very long rectangle to the size I wanted, I also added pockets but not that big. I never thought to use flannel but that is a good idea. I put the very thin cotton batting in mine and the backing was the width & length of the fabric. Turned out alright, but now the flannel idea sounds like something I used try. Off to the drawing board.

Thanks for the pattern ideas. As soon as I saw this post I immediately thought of a bed jacket. Thesis "capes" are pretty close and would leave hand free for reading, computer browsing or napping. No messing about with sleeves and all the medical things that may need to be done during a treatment. .

I have made several. Love them . They also work great as wheelchair lap quilts because they taper towards the bottom! You Tube Video I took a screenshot of her measurements, which helps.

Look up "bog coat" for a simple shape made by folding a quilted square. I've made a couple - one used by a sister who had dialysis on a regular basis and she loved it - easy to put on and warm. Here's the link to a Threads article on how to construct one. As I said, I used a pre-quilted square to make mine and bound the edges after I made cuts, folds and seams.
