#5 is out!

I'm really digging those blocks! I admit, as someone who prefers "controlled scrappy" I've been holding back to see a little more of how those blocks were going to be put together before I went whole hog on mixing things up but I'm all in now! I do think I'm probably going to keep my units A & B from Step 3 together & put them kiddy-corner (kitty-corner?) from each other in the block for Step 5. Just to control that scrappiness a little (I also made all my dark squares from fabric C all the same fabric too)

I've got #3 sewn, time to check out #4. I've got to make lunch for DH so won't get back to sewing for a bit.

Now I'm real glad I didn't take the time to trim off the dog ears on step #3!

I'm in too! Dedided to jump in at the very last minute. My blocks are going to be ugly, because I used leftover strips I had... all different kinds of fabrics. But my "values" are correct, so I'm hoping it will work anyway.

I'm also planning on sewing the matching pairs catty-corner from each other. Not sure what fabric to use for the 2"x4" sets of 4. I'll wait to see a bit more before I choose.

Off to look at clue 6!

I've always heard "kitty-corner", but had no idea where the expression came from. According to one website:

Interesting fact about Kitty-Corner

The term ‘kitty-corner’ has nothing to do with cats. Instead, it stems from the expression ‘cater-corner,’ which is derived from “quatre,” the French word for “four.” The term was used to describe the way the dots are placed on a dice positioned at number four, diagonally from one another.

I also learned that the expression is usually "catty-corner" in the UK.

I wonder if there is a French version of the phrase?

I am looking forward to seeing the photos of people's quilts. It is always so much fun to see what different fabrics look like in the same quilt design!

platyhiker, thank you for the vocab lesson! I was thinking of looking it up myself after I was done with the quilt so you saved me some time there!

Unfortunately, my plan for arranging the two opposing halves kitty-corner was foiled because I realized it wouldn't let get the darks/lights of the little square of each smaller block to go the right way when assembled into the bigger block. Oh well, still looks good to me!

Got clue 4 finished - my block loc ruler came in handy! Dinner is out of the oven so I'll probably eat before going on to #5. Made a french silk pie for later so I'm done with my homemaker duties for the day.

You ladies have been busy, I was stitching away, but also participating in the guild zoom, which is still on for another hour. I am on to Step 4 but haven’t looked ahead.

got half the blocks sewn and am taking a break. I really like how they look. I haven't cut any sashing yet, going to play around and see what I like best. Since I'm going to end up with 36 blocks, I might go square for a large throw quilt.

finished sewing up the blocks and decided I don't like them with the fabric I selected for the sashing - so it's good I didn't cut it yet!
