I've been here since June 2008. I grew to feel like I really knew others and remember when the board creator shared the story about its inception. This forum has been my "guild" and most of what I know about quilting has been learned from members. I will always be thankful for the day I stumbled in and was welcomed into the fold.

For some of us, an in person group is not realistic, so groups like these are a wonderful alternative

When I first joined (under a different name/email) there were quite a few folks who did hand applique, hand quilting, and such. They were wonderful artists whose work I really admired. Most if not all no longer post here.... I miss them!
I would love to see more of that type of work featured on here, much as I enjoy the work others share today!

Elaine, I would love to participate in a regular chat about handpiecing and applique and quilting. Is there a category for that here on the forum? If not, could one be set up so we can find it everytime we come here?

There are people that I miss their posts. There was an older gentleman from the west that posted beautiful pictures of quilts that he made.

I've been here since 2010. It was a revelation to see what people were up to. My DH and I did our quilting, never joined a group or guild. I was amazed at how many did machine quilting. I come from a background of hand quilting, simple machines, DH made his own patterns, and I repaired and washed antique quilts. I believe my first question was about hand washing a quilt, and everyone else was like, "Just throw it in the machine!".

I agree. There are people I miss. Ones who inspired me and who I learned from

When I started dabbling in quilting many years ago, I mainly sewed by machine. But in the last 20 plus years I have learned that my true love is handwork. There is nothing more peaceful than sitting and piecing or appliqueing by hand. I hand quilt, too, but it comes second to piecing or applique for me
