Singer Treadle Pedal resistance?
#1
I'm having issues with my Singer Treadle, regarding pressing down the pedal and finding it resistant. It will work but you have to put more strength into pressing down. The model is G380170. I recently had to put a new belt in, because the other was stretched out and not flexible. I made a slight adjustment to the screw that the wheel moves into when it turns, and I also had to screw back the rod that is attached to the pedal because it fell off. Any ideas how to make it a little easier to use?

Have you tried oiling the joints on the pedal where it attaches to the frame and both ends of the pitman arm? There are oil holes, but you may have to look for them. I've attached a screenshot of the page in the manual for a model 66 on where to oil the stand. It is a description only, no diagram.

I wonder if you got the belt too tight? There are instructions (without pictures) for installing a treadle belt at https://www.treadleon.net/sewingmach...eadlebelt.html.
Some points to be noted
It is not a very good image and kind of a pain to get to page 14 of https://www.scribd.com/document/1642...r-66k-Handbook but does show oiling points of a treadle. (You have to wait for ads and then click on the page or skip to see) Basically, it is any point where two pieces of metal move against the other that need oiling.
Some points to be noted
- "The key thing is not to get it too tight."
- "the belt just tight enough to sew, but not to slip."
- stretching it before putting on the machine.
