Default Cathedral Windows by Missouri Quilts

I started working on this a number of years ago for a couple and they asked for a queen size. I'd try Missouri Quilt's version of Cathedral Windows in a small size to see how it worked and didn't seem so hard but when you start working toward a larger size, EGADS!!!!!. I was able to put 2 rows of blocks together which then makes another block between them. I have 5 sets of rows like this but once I started stitching down the flaps, I got bored and put it away.

As I'm waiting for a special ruler to be delivered for my Abstraction quilt pattern, I decided to pull this out again and start working on it. I was able to get 2 sets done yesterday making it 54 blocks stitching down all for flaps.

My question now is how does one try to stitch down the center row of flaps once you start putting these sets of rows together? Its bulky enough with 9 rows down, 3 rows across and then you add another set just like that.

Has anyone come up with an easy way to stitch down these flaps? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. It will take me a couple more days before I start putting these sets of rows together.

Has anyone used Missouri Quilts version of cathedral windows in a large quilt?

Have you seen the pressing template by Erica Plank? She also has a web site called Unseen hands, and Facebook page. She has ideas about how to make a cathedeal window quilt faster and easier.

GregB, I checked out Erica Plank's video and that's the old way of making Cathedral Windows. I'm using Missouri Star's method that uses much less fabric though I'm finding out it still comes out fairly heavy when making a queen size quilt.

Yesterday I matched up strip sets, adding the next set of squares in the center and folding over the windows (flaps). It's tendious trying to stitch down those flaps no matter how I roll it but thanks for your input. So far you're the only one that came out with a reply and suggestion.

I'm now down to stitching the flaps in the center row, then I have the last row to add and stitch down the flaps.
