Default New bag for me! (I have notes about pattern...)

I've been sick this past week and a half so I picked a project where if I screwed up my cutting or math, I'd be okay with it. This is overall a really simple Messenger Bag pattern free on the Windham Fabrics site *but* you'd need 1.25 yards of your Main fabric if you cut according to their diagram ( well...maybe my fever was affecting my judgement, I think if you have your selvedges at the left and right, then you can cut all the pieces from 1 yard if you turn the "Bag Outside" pieces but I'd be most comfortable with 1 1/8 yards). I didn't do piping which I think would've looked amAzing but I didn't have any kona pickle on hand. I'd also make my strap loops and strap with a slightly different method rather than making tubes and turning right sides out. I'd probably put the flap in at a different stage too because even though I proceeded as if I was doing Y seams, my inner corners where the flap meets the bag are kinda messy - not a problem for me in day to day use though.

Why did I pick this pattern if I had so many notes? because it shows off a couple big chunks of fabric and doesn't put straps or pockets on top of the main fabric. That was mainly what I wanted.

Allison Glass panels from ~2020 for andover fabrics (includes linings)
dark blue/teal barkcloth from Outback Wife (original line) by Gertrude Made for Ella Blue fabrics
Essex cotton/linen in Pickle by Robert Kaufman for strap

Cute and functional! What more can you ask? LOL! I have this pattern somewhere printed out and haven't tried it yet. I like what you said about being able to use large chunks of fabric to be able to show them off. I have a couple pieces like that and I was wondering what to use them for. So, thanks for the review! I agree that the cording would have been a nice accent on the flap and stabilized it some.

I hope you feel better soon. This bag is lovely! You are really talented to have made this while ill! Good job and thank you for inspiring me to try even when feeling rotten.

Very nice bag, and I love the colorful front flap! I've never gotten into bags, but this is one I "might" try someday.

Let me know when you're going to try it. i drafted up 2 optional cutting diagrams for the Main Fabric (because that's how I am lol) and I could share those with you. I might end up posting my comments as a blog post but I'm not sure if I'll get that far with it or not.
