Default Need help on downloading purchased machine embroidery designs!

I have a dilemma...If someone can help me, I would be so so happy!! Every time I try to download a zip drive to my computer to put on my Janome Embroidery Machine, the files save as a media player file.

I need to figure out how to stop my computer from saving as a media player file and to instead, save as a zip file so I can then save the zip file on flash drive.

I have almost given up, I have tried to figure it out. Thank you for any help you can give me.

If you download the zip file to your computer, can you not right click on the file and tell it to unzip and save to a folder? You cannot save or send the zip file to the machine as I doubt if any machine can read it. You need to unzip, then select designs with the correct format for your machine and save them to a folder or flash drive and transfer to your embroidery machine.

When you go to download the file there should be a window that you chose the place where it gets sent to. The drop down arrow next to a window that has the wrong instructions in it, Then you press the zip file to tell the computer where you want it to be saved to. That should have a zip file selection you highlight. Then press download. I don't know that I explained it very well, Sorry.

Here are the directions for just downloading your file - when you download the file initially, there ought to be a pop up "system box" showing where it is being saved ( see image below). You can easily save it to the "Desktop" from there just by clicking on Desktop on the left column and choose save at the bottom. Once it is on your desktop, then you should right click on the file and another pop up will be shown (see blue circle below) - then choose Extract all.

Also, there is a file folder called "Downloads" right under Desktop that you can open and you may be able to unzip the files you have already downloaded from there. Once your file is unzipped, you ought to be able to drag it where ever you need it to be,

Hope some of this works for you.

By the way, there is a few utube videos you can watch on this subject. Sometimes seeing is better than written instructions. Just go to utube, type in downloading and unzipping files for embroidery machine. A few will come up to watch.
The person who sold you the files is another source to ask. They could have a easier way to access the files to your janome.

You will need to go into the settings tab of the browser and check the "zip" file. Check what happens with "zip" and change it. Google for directions and the actual process depending on computer/browser that you use.

The original embroidery file should already be zipped.

Embroidery machines don't read zip files. They have to be put on the USB individually. Some machines can read designs put into folders (not a zip file).

If you RIGHT click on the file you want to download you should get an option box with several choices. SAVE AS should be one and choose . zip. When ypu double click the zip file it should be opening as your embroidery files' Hope this is the answer you were seeking.

Oh I get it, it's happened to me before and it's super frustrating!
Your computer is just confusing the file type because of the default association.
The file is indeed one .zip, but it opens with the media player.
You can right-click → "Open with" → "Windows Explorer" to unzip it.
And then copy the extracted files to your USB flash drive for your Janome.
    Courage, you will make it!
