I'm beta testing some rulers for a manufacturer and the question crossed my mind, in an average sewing session of cutting how many rulers do you use? I have an accuquilt now, but yesterday in a project I measured with my 2.5" Creative Grids 6.5" Tula, 3.5"X12" (?) Eleanor Burns and my 7.5" Fiskers.

I would say in an average session I use my (I think it's Omnigrid) 6" x 12" and my Tucker Trimmer. Anyway, those are the two that are always on my cutting table.

If I'm just sewing, I usually have a 4.5 or 6.5 square by my machine so I can do a quick check if I think something is a bit off. If I am cutting, I would use my 8.5x24 or 6x24 and probably a 6x12. I do not have a bunch of specialty rulers. But I adore my BlocLoc rulers for trimming HST's. Best gift I ever got!

I only have a few rulers - almost all are Omnigrid. I'd say this is the current frequency of use order:

1) 12.5" square - almost every quilt
2) 6.5" x 24" - almost every quilt, esp. for borders/bindings
3) 6.5" square (my newest purchase)
4) 3" x 18" (the first ruler I had) - when I'm cutting strips more than blocks for a quilt
5) Judy Hopkins' Scrap Saver (more of a template than a ruler but it gets used more as my scraps get smaller and need to be turned into triangles)

. One of my most used rulers to cut yardage is the Creative Grids 12 1/2" by 24".

Not sure because of the different types of quilts I have made but I am thinking about 6 or 7. This includes cutting the long ways on the yardage to then segment it out with a small appropriate ruler into blocks. Squaring up the quilt and then making the binding with too. Then any squaring up as you go rulers. Or a specialty ruler for those types of blocks.
It really depends, right? Boggles the mind really to try and figure it out because of the different quilts we make.
Oh, and sometimes I use my rulers to mark quilting lines.

I use the 6" X 24" for squaring up the fabric, then the 6.5 X 12.5 for some pieces, and the 6.5 square for cutting smaller pieces.

Thought of getting this ruler. Use 8.5 x 24.5 Creative Grids (CG) is used on almost all projects. It cuts width of fabric.

The second most used ruler is a 45 degree triangle.

From there a third ruler depends on the design of the project.

Use a collection of squares from CG; 2.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 8.5. 9.5, 10.5, 12.5, 21.5

There's a few other rulers (triangle, circles, 6.5 x 12.5, 6.5 x 18.5) that make life easier and used depending on the project.

When we moved, I purged all other rulers and haven't missed them.

I have a small area for cutting - about the size of my 18" x 24" mat. So my go-to ruler is 6.5" x 12.5" most of the time. I sometimes also use a Creative Grids "folded corner clipper tool."

While I use most of the sizes mentioned, I also use a CG 2 1/2” x 6 1/2” ruler. I like to make smaller blocks.
