Has anyone cut 2 1/4" wide strips for binding? I have always used 2 1/2" and I looked through all my patterns and quilt book and they all say 2 1/2", but I'm working on a quilt from a kit and it says to cut 2 1/4" wide binding strips. Could that be correct, or a typo? Is there a reason 2 1/4" wide would be recommend instead of 2 1/2"?
Thank you for your help!

I have gone as big as 2 3/4" when wrapping back to front, usually I use 2 1/2" like everyone else. I would think that 2 1/4" would be really tight, but if you lie a small binding in my opinion it would be best to hand stitch it down.

I use either one depending on how much fabric I have and the look I want. I'm currently binding a quilt that I matched the binding to the border. I used 2 1/4" binding sewn on with a 1/4" seam and I'm happy with the result.

I used 2 1/4 on everything. I used 2 1/2 on quilt that I entered and lost points for the binding not being full. I have used 2 1/4 since then and leave about 1/8 inch extra of batting on the outside edge to make sure my binding is full.
