    Do you wash your batting before using it to make place mats?

    i prewash fabrics but not batting.

    I never wash my batting until it's in a finished quilt.

    if you can find some needlepunch type batting…it works great for placemats.

    I don't use batting in placemats anymore. A heavy duty interfacing on top and backing gives a crisp look and keeps the mat flat.
