    Default Third Weekend in October

Earlier this year someone on the forum was looking for a pattern for Third Weekend in October by Ruth Powers. That reminded me that I bought the pattern long ago, and renewed my interest in making it. The blocks in the original pattern are 2.5" finished, but I wanted a quilt that was somewhat smaller, so I reduced them to 2" finished. I used paper piecing only for a few of the blocks, since most could be pieced without a foundation. As a result my finished quilt is 68" by 88" instead of the 85" by 110" in the original pattern.

The pattern came with a very small grid showing placement of blocks and colors. I found it very hard to read the grid, and parts weren't clear even after I enlarged them. I didn't try to match the colors used in the pattern.

Every leaf is a different fabric, all from stash. The leaves are quilted (on my Innova longarm) individually with what is meant to look like veins. The background is just a combination of swirly designs. Quilting it took a long time because of frequent thread changes, tying off and burying knots.

I am so glad this one is finished! Now to find something much more relaxing for the next project.

    Spectacular!! ...
.... and what would a @dunster quilt be, without your dog photo'd on it?
So, if every leaf is a different stash fabric ... how many fabrics did you use?

That would be a "me too" ... I have that pattern from long ago, and have always aspired to do it.
Can only wonder where oh where it is now? Maybe you have inspired me? ... to find the pattern and get at it?

Great quilt, dunster. I have that pattern and have always wanted to make it. Maybe it needs to get in the line up of "next" projects!

Dunster, it's gorgeous! I love the blue background - it sets off all the colors so well!

You put a lot of work into this quilt and it shows, both in the piecing as well as in the quilting. Just stunning!!!!
