I've started making bespoke, quilted, throw pillows. I just make them up as I go along. It's very freeing! Also, I don't have to push around a big heavy quilt sandwich. Pillows are small...manageable. They're coming out really pretty too!

I've just discovered making pillows, too. It's pretty great to free motion quilt them when you're not worried about puckering on the back. We had a lot of wimpy couch pillows, so my husband is pretty excited about me combining 2 or 3 to make a super stuffed pillow. Also, I got some polyester batting at a garage sale, so it's really great to use that instead of some really expensive batting.

In the past I've quilted fabric I want to use to make covers for all my toilet seats. As for pillows, I got into doing pleats on my pillows to add a little texture. I pleated a complete WOF until I got to the center and left that blank and it fit perfectly for my pillow shams to go with the quilt I made.
When I was making cushions for my porch swing and wicker chairs, I put the fabric on the machine and quilted it fit. Sure makes them look high end with that added touch.

I agree. The quilting gives them a little spit and polish. I'm just making them up as I go along. If they come out too big, I can just trim them down. If they come out too small, I add a border. Piping, or no piping? I decide as I go along. I've been using scraps that are just big enough to do a back, usually in a contrasting color to the front. It's fun to be so free to create!
I have to say that I prefer to not use zippers. I used them when I first started, but I find that zippers can be scratchy sometimes. Now I'm making them with an envelope back. theire soft and one can cuddle with them.
