I'm so excited, I'm heading for Missouri Star Quilts on Friday with my neighbor. She has a friend who has a booth somewhere there that she wanted to stopped at and she asked if I'd like to go with her. Well of course I want to go. I've always wanted to go and check out the place but I hate going to those types of places alone. I also don't need to buy any fabrics either as I have so much in my stash now but I have one quilt top using a lot of scraps that I might see if I can find a backing for, that's not actually buying fabric, right? I'll check this bolt of striped fabric I have before I go and see if it will go wel with the quilt top and if not, then my goal is a backing only unless I find something I can't live without that's not fabric such as a new ruler or rotary cutter but on sale if they even have sales.

We'll be heading out aorund 5:30am as it's a 3.5hr drive each way, I'm bringing the drinks ( water, tea, etc).

Is there anything I absolutely need to see while I'm there?

I have no idea about what you need to see, but I wanted to say I am so jealous. I've always wanted to go to MSQC. And, what has having a lot of fabric got to do with buying that great piece that you see?? lol

Well I agree with cashs mom. Not fair that I live so many states away. I would love to go and find new ideas for my kids quilts. Take LOTS of pictures for you to remember what you saw after a few months then wanting to make your version of "that quilt"?!!

Hubby was kind enough to stop for the day, while traveling through Hamilton MO. He spent the day in one of the shops called the Man Cave or something... a place for the menfolk to relax, watch sports, buy snacks from machines, play pool and talk to the other men there. He had a great day! Meanwhile, I zipped through town, going from one store to another. I spent most of my time (and money) in front of the sales shelves in each store. They all have a sale section and they are full of treasures.

I noticed all the stores were wide open and uncluttered, probably because they planned for a lot of foot traffic. I think most quilters would enjoy at least one trip to Hamilton.

i 'think' this weekend is the birthday celebration of some sort, so it might be crowded, or you might need tickets for something?
that said, I was there about a month ago, stayed at their RV park. for the most part I was the only person in all the stores, except for one couple, by the end of town we were fast friends Probably the economy, it wasn't like that 4 years ago when I was there about the same time of year. Enjoy yourself. Although it needs a big infusion of funds and cleaning, I enjoyed the museum very much.

as a scrappy only, I bought scraps at the merchantile. they bring you the box of color and you pick what you want, it is by the pound and no sale, but a fat quarter of something is yardage to me.
Just having a day out with your friend is bound to be a blast, enjoy your time! (I'm about 4000 miles from Hamilton normally)

Lots of good things happening at Missouri Star Sept 17 - 20. It's the Birthday Bash. Lots of free things to precipitate in. The ticket events are mostly for the night when a special talks with the Doans and trunk shows will be held. The website has all the bargains and sales listed. New ones every day are added.

I really enjoyed the Museum, but then, I like looking at quilts and sewing machines.

One of the nice things about moving to the heartland is the opportunities I now have for pretty easy travel to parts of the country I haven't yet seen, or at least seen post-1970.

Some of my sewing group ladies are doing all 69 stops in the Illinois Shop Hop, the one leading the expedition is still working and is doing this as her vacation this year, usually just taking Fridays off and shopping on weekends. But some stores are closed on Sundays and some are far enough away that her planning deserved a couple of Thursdays and overnights. (I've gone to about 12 shops with them)

We are discussing doing an overnight to Missouri Star, is a bit over 4 hours away so could be done as a day trip but really... we are all getting older!

It is almost the same distance going east to go to Paducah...another discussion with the sewing group, but the hubby surprisingly would like to tour quilting mecca with me

The backing I want to look for is for a quilt pattern that was one of Joan's youtube videos back in I think 2019 called Rick Rack so that should be fun to search for the perfect backing. Guess I need to know what size I made the quilt also before I head out at 5:30am tomorrow morning. We don't plan to stay overnight, just a day trip for us so more driving than anything I think.

Thanks for the heads up about the celebration bash going on. I just know that my neighbor has a friend who will have a booth somewhere in that town she wants to stop at. I'm basically just in it for the ride and to say "Yes, I've been to Missouri Star Quilts".

It's about a six hour drive for me. I go there about twice a year. I prefer to go alone on quilt trips. I like to shop there on a Friday or Saturday because a lot of buses arrive on a Friday and I meet quilters from all over.
