Question National Night Out

How many of you have attended a National Night Out and what did you do? I've been asked to plan our next National Night Out and I agreed--great way to meet Officers--but this is the first time I have planned something like this. I will be VERY GRATEFUL for any and all ideas. I have some time but need any ideas that you can offer so I can get everything planned and in order so I can get it approved by the Apartment Complex Staff. I have started with making a quilt of this state's flag as well as the year that it will be awarded to the then Chief of Police as he is retiring I have been told in 2 years.
Please H-E-L-P Thanks for all your replies and suggestions.

Never heard of it but would be interested in hearing other people's experiences.

https://natw.org/ is one website that has information about the purpose of the National Night Out program. I've searched many of the web site but still need ideas as to what worked in your area. I have some time but the date is getting closer each second that ticks away.

It's an opportunity to get together with first responders and neighbors. It's basically a meet and greet your community. I need ideas on how to make it fun for everyone 3years and up. We will have a drawing--maybe.

I'm just not certain on what is needed to make it a great time for everyone. We will have both children and adults so I need to get it started so everyone will have a great time and host the event this year.

Again ALL suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Our neighborhood used to have a "neighborhood watch" meeting every 3 months. National Night out is the first Tuesday in August so that would be our 3rd quarter meeting. We did the usual stuff like talk about the neighborhood and community issues and we had a BBQ potluck. The host house provided the BBQ and everyone else brought a dish to pass and whatever they wanted to BBQ. She also contacted either the local fire department or sheriffs department and they would come by and if kids were at the event they would get to meet them and maybe see the fire truck up close or law enforcement. She provided popsicles for dessert. All in all pretty low key, but a nice way to get together with your neighbors.

I remember going to a National Night Out back in the day when we lived in our townhouse. It was fun but I don't remember ever doing it again. The neighborhood I live in now doesn't seem to do anything for National Night Out.

Ours just got shut down--even with me doing all the work. Management said that I can't do anything as a resident. Only the office can do that. Stupid but I have to go with it. Such is nonsense or is it life????
