Default Type of printable water-soluble fusible stabilizer/sheet for clamshells?

I just bought Laura Coia's book "Sew Very Easy Quilt As You Go Clamshells" after I read the book for free on Hoopla through my library.

I have never appliqued anything in my life. But her technique looks doable.

However, I think the wash away fusible printable sheets sold on the publisher's website are overpriced.

Is it the same as Sulky? What should I look for when buying a more affordable substitute?

I bought wash a way fusible off the bolt at Hobby Lobby for an applique project. I don't remember the exact name but it was by Pellon. it was easy to stitch through by hand. I don't remember it being expensive. Anyway every other week everything on a bolt is on sale there. I would think any embroidery sticky rinse away would work.

I use those wash away fusible sheets when I do applique. Try ordering from Fat Quarter Shop, The wash away fusible sheets are cheaper there.

I also bought the Pellon disolveable by the yard when JOANN's was in business, probably the same as you can get at Hobby Lobby. Hadn't thought about it in a while, but I think I got 10 yards or something like that for doing the Baptist Fan.

Oops. For it to be printable didn't register with me. My suggestion wouldn't work at all for you unless you wanted to trace the design on to the stabilizer. I've done that before, didn't take much time.

Your link shows them as sold out, so you might have to go searching for a different source anyway.
