What would you make with these subunits?

Some time ago I acquired several baggies of mostly pre-sewn sub-units. Many of them are like these ones - a 2.5" x 4.5" sewn to a 2.5" square, but I have tried sorting them out and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the colour choices in each sub-unit although they were collected in colour groups (this set is from a green/purple/pink/blue theme).
I've played around long enough and am at the point where I think I'm just going to unpick them and add the separate components to my scrap bins, but before I do, does anyone know (without going to any effort) a quilt block/pattern that these might have been destined for?

Thanks, Stitches23 - that's the best lead I've had so far. :-) I've been looking up patterns for those specific measurements with little success but that pattern might at least give them a home in a finished project. I'm starting to think that the donor of said units might have run into a similar struggle of "these might not actually go together as well as I'd hoped," leading to their appearance on the guild free table. ;-) I'm stubborn, though!

You didn't say how many units you have!
Here's one idea, they are frames for a center square. Since they are already sewn together you will need a partial seam but that isn't to bad.
With the light corners and dark squares, I would probably choose a light background but vividly and very colored print to pick up the dark tones in the bars -- like a floral of small flowers. That will form light color squares crossing the squares (which will start to read circular)...
