Default Kenmore 159.140 needle strike

I’ve done a lot of work to get the feed dogs working, the zig zag works now after a lot of work. Now that the zig zag works I get needle strikes in straight stitch. It’s a left homing machine and the needle now strikes the plate. If I switch to blind stitch it sews close to the middle and is fine but not sure how this would work with my cams.

that should read Kenmore 158.140

It looks like you posted the same picture as in your other post. A couple of quick thoughts would be is that the dial is not straight up and down which I believe it should be for zigzag, cam and straight stitching. I would think that if you are able to zigzag at the widest width, that it would strike the needle plate on the left side, if it is striking it with a straight stitch. Also, it is possible the needle is bent or damaged if it has struck the plate. Another think is that by the needle striking the plate that it may have caused a burr that needs to be addressed and smoothed out.

so here the thing. If I switch the knob to B (for blind stitch) everything works, straight, zigzag, satin stitch and all the cams work. No needle strikes. I don’t know why that is but I’ve decided that’s good enough for me. I wasn’t planning on using the blind stitch or the buttonhole anyway.
