Aunt Becky's Finger Protector
Hello fellow quilters
Has anyone used this thing? I looked at pictures and it intrigues me. I am about to begin hand quilting a large quilt, and I'm looking for ideas to make this as easy as possible. In the past when I hand quilted a lap quilt, I used a thimble -not very well I must admit... and I'd like to save my fingertips from the pian I had last time...

I had to go look for this one. I've never heard of the Aunt Becky Finger Protector. This youtube video helped me figure it out. I might have to get this particular tool. I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone on the QB uses it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeKrAHJKAwU

I use thimble pads and T.J's Quilk quilter. I have never been able to wear a normal thimble, and I love the spoon.

Like Dedemac, i have used the Thimble Pads. Thimbles just kinda frustrate me cuz i need to feel while i am quilting (without poking myself). Quilt in a Day has a multipack on sale now which includes all of their Thimble Pads - i especially like the little round stainless dots which keep me from getting poked but dont have a lot of other bulk.
i dont hand quilt a lot, but when i do this is what i use. I have always admired people who could use regular thimbles. Im just not experienced enough to be able to use them successfully.

Yes I have it…..and used it….and kept it….no…I don’t use it now, but didn’t get rid of it. If you hand quilt or learn to hand quilt it might be something you fall in love with. For me…I like to feel my finger…not a metal piece when it is time to rock my needle up for the stitch.

I've never used anything on my bottom finger when hand quilting. Just build up quite a callus after a bit. The thimble I use, however is the cone-shaped one in the link below. I found it made all the difference in the world as you push with the pad of your finger and not the tip. So much more comfortable.

I hadn't thought of the Aunt Becky in years. I have several in my thimble basket. I liked using it. I remember the quilt shop having a short class every few months how to use it. My quilting group then, we all hand quilted.
