    Default Marking fabric

Hello there! I have an excellent marker that I use to write all over my quilts while making them. I also use the markers to outline templates. I’m starting a new project that includes very dark fabric and I’m pretty sure my current markers won’t show up. Does anyone have any tried and true recommendations for a white marker that will definitely wash out?

A white Bobbin fine marking pencil available on Amazon. The marks simply brush off the fabric.

Good question. I use washable markers, but there is no white!
Ya'll probably already know this, but is new tip for me. I had to sew diagonally across squares. To mark the stitch line, I ran my wheel (used with tracing paper) across several times, and I could follow the indention easily.

I use a sliver of soap to mark dark fabrics. It's a given that will washs out. One bar of Ivory has lasted me for years. Do they still Make Ivory bar soap?

They do still make it! What a great idea. Do you find that it’s difficult to get a sharp edge? I just received the Bohin marking pencils so I’m going to try them. But this definitely has me curious for when I run out.

There are different shapes/styles/sizes to consider.

@Tabinfla ... You mentioned "pencils", so I am thinking you have the type that need to be sharpened. This is the refillable pencil which I have liked better than the ones that need to be sharpened. This one gives you a nice fine line and I found there to be less breakage than with ones to be sharpened.

You can also get it with grey leads.

They have a bit of warning, but I've personally had great success on dark marking with the Ultimate Marking Pencil by Full Line Stencils, the creator of the Pounce Pad. I also love the pounce markings but have varying degrees of success when making my own designs/templates instead of the purchased screens.

I have used the soap method too, back when my eyes were sharper.

I used a wide blade knife to cut across the bar to make rectangle pieces. I had an old tailer chalk sharpener that made the edge very thin. I still have pieces never used in a plastic zip bag. One piece lasts a long time for me.
