Just about everytime I make a star block and sew it together I lose most of my points. I am a new enough quilter that I do not know what I am doing wrong. Help?

Be sure you measure again before you sew your hst together. Mine usually end up a little bigger or a little wonky and I have to trim/square them up a little bit before joining them together. Since I've started doing that I don't lose near as many points as I used to. Just make sure when you are trimming that the diagonal (45 degree) line on your ruler is lined up on the diagonal seam in your hst.

Maybe your seams are wider than 1/4 inch.

When I was a beginner I had the same problem until I tried this trick. Use the full 1/4 inch seam until the putting the blocks together. At the time I move my needle over one space to the right. Perfect points ever time!

When you're ready to attach the star block put the star block on top so you can watch where the stitching is going. When you get to the point slow down and put the needle down right at the end of the point. When you finish you'll find your point right there and as sharp as ever.

I agree! :D:D:D This is about the only way I can keep consistent points, too. Also check your 1/4" seams, you may want to switch to a scant 1/4" and be careful when you press too :D:D:D

Yep, count me in this club too! I also measure my units and check the 1/4 inch seam before I sew together. Often, if you are loosing points, you don't have enough seam allowance & it helps to move the needle over when you reach the point to accomodate for this.

PIN PIN PIN! I use pins to align the points and I check both sides. The seam allowance on my point seams is what it needs to be. Mine may not be perfect, but they are OK that way.
