First Shot at Hand Applique
#1
Finally finished this wall hanging. Its called Chelsea and I found the pattern in one of Kaffe Fassetts quilting books. I took the liberty to change a few things though. In the original the flower stems were all standing straight up but I made mine swervy (?) as it seemed to give more movement. I also appliqued some of the flower heads onto the border and added three butterflies in the right hand border. Its my first attempt at hand applique and I must say I really enjoyed the challenge. The wall hanging measures 38" x 44".

That's so cool, Irish. I love the motion in the piece.
Kaffe Fassett's fabrics just make me happy. I love the vibrant colors and I especially love the huge scale prints. I've worked on several of his quilts that were published in magazines and books. The colors throb as if the flowers are actually alive. His work makes me smile and so does yours!

Congratulations, I too love to needle turn applique. Last week at my quilt club meeting we had a speaker who talked about thinking outside the box. I think that is just what you did by changing the stems of the flowers and going into the border with your design. Again - congratulations and keep it up.

Hard to believe that is a first attempt at hand applique. It looks great...good job. Making the stems swervy and having them going into the borders were good design ideas. Great job
