I just completed a mini hand appliqued Dresden plate quilt (24" square) and now don't have a clue how to machine quilt it. Should I sew over the appliqued pieces, do a stitch in the ditch, use an embroidery machine motif? I have made one other appliqued quilt--BIG and it is at the quilter so don't know how to quilt this one. Thanks for everyone who give suggestions.

On the background, you could do some sm meandering or sm stippling or even some pebbles. That would make your plates really stand out. Or you could always do smalll crosshatching in the background. I love that look but don't like ruler work. :D

I've done a small fan quilt and I echo quilted 1/4" INSIDE the individual fan blades and then did a diagonal grid outside of the fans on the background fabric. I hand quilted and used wool batting and it came out really well.

SID fan blades or 1/4 in outside if you didn't put lace around it. A pretty flower design or corner design in blank area with or without diagonals. That is just my thought. It's been lots of years since I made the fan.
