First of all thank you all for your help so far! Ive got the binding attached to the backside completely. I am about to roll it over and sew it down on the front side. The video I'm using doesnt say and I cant see if the zig-zag stitching I'm using should go on the seam or on the binding side. Should it look like pic 1 or pic 2?

The important thing is that the binding cover the first seam. Other than that, I think it's personal preference.

Your drawings did help clarify the question.

What I probably would do would be to have one of the zigs barely catch the quilt fabric and most of the stitching would be on the binding.

Or you could just use a straight stitch on the edge of the binding. Either way works.
