I belong to a small online sewing group of about 14 ladies. It was suggested that we each take a month and organize an activity/exchange/swap/game. August is my month and I have been surfing the net and wracking my brain to come up with a fun activity that most would like to participate in. We already have a FQ swap set to go for August that another lady is doing. For Sept they are going to have a calico sampler block exchange.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a fun actiity? Many of the ladies will not do paper piecing or applique. I was thinking of doing tote bags with the pet screening but it could get too costly and some are on a limited budget so if they can use their stash it wold be better.
I really need help with this :)

You could suggest doing birthday blocks for each other. Make a schedule and each person suggest the block she would like.

We made scrap sacks one time. It didn't long, and then everyone had one (some people ended up making multiple ones). Most people can find a couple of fabrics in their stash, no purchase necessary.

Our guild was part of an Idea Sharing exchange in the spring. Here are some of the suggestions for activities that came out of the sessions.

How about making a chatelaine? Make 2 4 1/2" unfinished blocks. Layer the two blocks right sides together with an optional piece of batting inside. Place the end of a length of 1/4" grosgrain ribbon in the corner between one block and the batting. Sew all around the blocks, leaving a small opening to turn the square right side out (be sure not to catch any of the ribbon except what is in the corner). Trim the corners, turn the block right side out, and stitch the opening shut. Tie a pair of small scissors to the other end of the ribbon. Place the ribbon around your neck. The block will hold pins and needles, and the scissors are right there when you need them.
