I have a Viking Quilt Designer 1, which requires a Viking FMQ foot. I've set all the recommendations for FMQ but the pressure foot, even when "down," doesn't touch the fabric. It's about 1/4" above. It doesn't seem to matter but I would have much more confidence if it touched. (I'm new to FMQ and have my first grand success today!) Does yours touch the fabric?

I have the Viking Sapphire 875 and my pressure foot does not go all the way down when FMQ. It is suppose to be that way, so I am told.

a free motion (darning foot) is supposed to be that way,allows for the added bulk of your sandwich, if it went down you would not be able to freely move your quilt around it would be held in place by the foot. just like you have to drop the feed dogs so you can move around.

My old Janome that I've FMQ'd on is the same...there's a gap which allows the quilt to move freely

You need that gap between the foot and your fabric :D:D:D

I'm pretty sure none of them go all the way down. If you need to anchor your fabric when you stop just put the needle down.

You need a bit of a gap to maneuver the sandwich.

I have an 875Q and mine does the same thing.
