They have just come out with their long arm thread. It's poly, 70 wt, 3-ply. Has anyone ordered any yet? The colors are nice, but I'm used to 30 wt cotton. I was considering ordering one to see how it would do, then wondered if anyone else had already ordered some. The price ($5.99) is sure good...if it works!

So far, I'm chicken, LOL!

I'm wondering about it, too. What I'd like to know is if it would be suitable for piecing and/or 'quilting' in the hoop.

I will probably order 1 in white. If I don't care for it, I'll use it for bobbins or donate it.

Do you think it would be good for hand quilting?

I was taught to use cotton thread since we're using cotton fabrics. I'll have to ponder this since it's a poly.

I ordered a cone of it. it's a great value. Poly is poly no matter who makes it and there are three types of poly: Spun, Filament, and Trilobal. I'm pretty sure the Pro thread is spun because of the matte finish. Superior's Poly Quilter is spun poly. I have been a big fan of Connecting Threads for years. They are steadily becoming a focal point in the quilting world. I've noticed the CT has started sponsoring a few well known quilters. Sponsoring is a sure fire way to get endorcement.

I'm primarily concerned with long arm quilting. I've not tried Superior's Poly, but I did try some cheaper poly and it skipped stitches a lot. That's why I'm a bit afraid of it. However, I may go ahead and order a cone and see how it goes. You are right about the value. I'm sure it can be used in a domestic machine (don't know if it would be good for hand quilting), so if I order a neutral color I can always use it. BellaBoo, if you're going to use it on a long arm, let me know what you think about it. I'm always interested in a cheaper way to do things!

I'm just thinking if you are used to 30wt which is a fairly heavy thread going to 70wt which is a very light weight thread, will have a pretty drastic change in the appearance of your quilting.

That is a lighter weight then So Fine (50wt) or bottom line (60wt)

I am sure a little of it will go a very long way but your quilting will also look different. Not as pronounced maybe.

Yes, I thought the weight might also be a problem. I use 60 wt 2 ply YLI for my piecing and most regular sewing thread is 50 wt. I really like King Tut and bottom line for my quilter, but King Tut is really expensive.

king tut and most other quilting threads are 40 weight. some are 30. 70 weight is very very fine. i only use it for the hemming machine. btw, i never had any trouble with either poly or invisible, which i don't like. poly has a nice shine that i like.
