I am one of about 30 volunteers for the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program here in Western Washington state. It is a Federally mandated program to protect the rights of residents in long term care facilities (nursing homes, boarding homes and adult family homes). [NOTE: Your state has this program also.] I find it very satisfying to meet new people and ensure their rights are being respected in these facilities.

We cover all L-T facilities in 5 large counties in Washington. There are only 3 paid positions and all the rest of us (30) are certified volunteers. Due to Federal Budget problems, our program is being severely cut in Western Washington. We do not know if our program will survive this, but we all felt we wanted to do something for our Regional Director and her assistant.

I made a signature wall hanging for them and had all the volunteers sign it at our annual pot luck earlier this week. I had some Mary E panels and matching material I had bought at a yard sale earlier this year, so the theme was "Bloom where you're planted" -- It was so appropriate since neither of them knew if they will keep their job in the coming year (probably not).

Just wanted to share this with all of you, my good quilting friends!

Our Assistant and Regional Managers with their wall hangings!
