Have any of you every made the wrap around receiving blanket?
The pattern says to make the smaller piece a 35 inch square and the bigger one a 43 inch square. You mark the center of each side on both pieces. Then you sew each side 1/4 seam and stop and start 1/4 from each end. You cut the little corner off , turn it right out and iron making it a wrap around baby blanket. Would this work if it's a rectangle not a square? I hate wasting the fabric to make it square.

Do you have a picture? I can't wrap my brain around this. Sounds interesting

The ones I've seen have been square but I think it would work as a rectangle too. you could square up the fabric and use the extra as a burp cloth. I've never made one myself, the only complaint I've heard from others is that it can be tricky to get the corners to look nice.

Here is a web site that shows you how to make the self binding blanket. I think you can do any size square or rectangle just make sure the the bigger one is 4 inches bigger on all 4 sides. I think when you make it you will think this doesn't work but it does. If I didn't cut and paste right just look up self binding blanket.

I make my receiving blankets 42" or 43" and take a old cd and round the corners, and serge around all around the blanket. perfect every time. The mother's love them because they are bigger than store bought. I hope this is helpful!

Here is another tutorial for it. I cannot seem to "process" the process in my head, but I haven't sat down to try it either.
