My walking foot is chirping like a canary! It isn't even a year old yet! I bought it at my LQS last March when I started quilting. The shop is about 35 minutes away or I would take it there and have them check it out. It is a Bernina walking foot. There really wasn't an instruction booklet so I thought I'd ask the experts - all of you. Does it need oiling? If so, where do you put the oil! Thanks for your help

My Viking Rose was purchased in 1996. I was afraid my walking foot would wear out & I would not be able to replace it. I just ordered a replacement which is Vikings replacement for my original walking foot.

I put a drop of oil in my Bernina walking foot about 6 mos. ago. Works great and no noise. I think some lint or dust had gotten inside and was causing a small squeak.

You should not have to oil anything on a Janome. However, I would expect to have to oil things on a Bernina.

I'd ask your dealer before I tried anything. I have an older Viking and I've oiled my walking foot. That dang thing was squealing like a little piggy. A sewing machine shop owner told our quilt guild that it's ok to oil any place where metal touches metal. Makes sense, but ask your dealer.

I looked on the Bernina website and searched the topic. There is no mention of needing to oil the walking foot. I ewould definitely call your LQS before you oil the walking foot. As to never needing to oil a Janome and needing to oil Berninas - not sure why the attitude but Berninas are a higher quality machine and I would expect less need for oiling than with a Janome.
